<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sR-tCgv0_zI/TyMip0NMeUI/AAAAAAAAALk/BuqVgLJlzZM/s1600/IMG_2176_1364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sR-tCgv0_zI/TyMip0NMeUI/AAAAAAAAALk/BuqVgLJlzZM/s640/IMG_2176_1364.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, it happened... my baby has turned 5. She leaves me for kindergarten next year and probably college the year after that. She tells me not to worry, she will always be my baby and will always come home on her birthday. Ha, smart girl! She knows where the presents will be,...and the cake too! She also says she will NEVER kiss any boy except her Daddy, because that's is just the grossest thing she can think of. She idolizes her Mom, and tells me all the time, "Moma, you're so beautiful", when I can promise you I would have to pay anyone else to say that. She gets furious if anyone says she looks like her Daddy, because she wants to look and be just like her Moma.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These days are precious because I know they are numbered. Before long, I will be the last person in this world she will want to look like. Instead of being her favorite person, I will more than likely just be her nagging mother. And oneday, she <i>will</i> want to kiss a boy and it <i>won't</i> be her Daddy. But she's right about one thing,...no matter how old or sassy she may get,...she will always be my baby girl! </div>

Well, my little 'Tink' had a great birthday. Happy Birthday Faithy!!!! I love you sweet girl!!</div>DeeDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18271937863646022213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-12369213732247276782011-08-28T10:33:00.000-07:002011-08-28T17:28:17.145-07:00Dylan's Birthday<div style="text-align: center;"> My oldest son Dylan, who turned 18, asked me to make a Shadow Hawk cake for his birthday. I am very use to getting strange requests from him, and always of some type of very unique vehicle that most people have never heard of. Last year I made 3 crazy vehicles for his cake so I'm thankful he only asked for one this year. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So what is a Shadow Hawk? Well, I can't really tell you, but here is a picture of it. Everytime I refer to it as a car I am very quickly corrected. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZWLnKECnkM/TlpoUdDhdtI/AAAAAAAAALQ/OpQ-AqZPvgQ/s1600/shadow-hawk-ii.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZWLnKECnkM/TlpoUdDhdtI/AAAAAAAAALQ/OpQ-AqZPvgQ/s400/shadow-hawk-ii.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gtYpba9hNTY/TlppBUqeKdI/AAAAAAAAALc/-N81jT9xlIc/s1600/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gtYpba9hNTY/TlppBUqeKdI/AAAAAAAAALc/-N81jT9xlIc/s400/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1141.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is my version. I had drawn this car/ tank/ thingy, out on paper much better. My design gets lost in translation somewhere from the paper to the cake. I'm thinking I will just stick with drawing. On the cake, my vehicle turned out more like a hot rod than a shadow hawk, but Dylan liked it so I was happy.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6iH2ZNUfbUI/Tlpo05Sy9sI/AAAAAAAAALY/y18c7E_oaQ4/s1600/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1133.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6iH2ZNUfbUI/Tlpo05Sy9sI/AAAAAAAAALY/y18c7E_oaQ4/s400/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1133.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I was dealing with a migraine for the most part of working on this cake. At one point I had to go rest on the couch for a little while because I was just feeling too bad. Faith says to me, "I have an idea! How about you rest and I can finish the cake?" lol The scary part is that I actually considered it. She is only 4, so if I had we would be seeing very different looking pictures right now. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qT8pdcZKoiU/TlpoqObsMpI/AAAAAAAAALU/xEeB1ZQOBBg/s1600/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1130.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qT8pdcZKoiU/TlpoqObsMpI/AAAAAAAAALU/xEeB1ZQOBBg/s400/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1130.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> We had some speed bumps on our road and the speed limit was of course 18 mph.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3LyrSpu9GyI/TlppJBCq21I/AAAAAAAAALg/BKaSeU8_-r4/s1600/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1147-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3LyrSpu9GyI/TlppJBCq21I/AAAAAAAAALg/BKaSeU8_-r4/s400/Dylan%2527s+Birthday_1147-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And here's the birthday boy. Happy Birthday Dylan! I love you more than I can even say and I hope you had a GREAT birthday!</div>DeeDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18271937863646022213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-23780867536288447692011-08-12T09:45:00.000-07:002011-08-12T09:45:16.866-07:00My Cake HobbyI was in a local craft store and had turned down the cake supply isle, standing there were these two women, who were both just staring at all the stuff on the shelves, not saying a word. They had this deer in the headlights kind of look about them. I politely reached around them to get the couple of items I needed. But right before I walked away, one of them said to the other, "no wonder cakes are so expensive". The other one says," yeah, maybe we would be better off to just pay someone else to make this thing after all". I thought to myself, "yes you would!" <br />
<br />
It is very hard to actually make money on these outrageous custom detailed cakes. That is why cake making is now just an occasional hobby for me. It is way tooo expensive not to even mention time-consuming. I will always make my kids birthday cakes and I'm sure other personal treats here and there. I am preparing for my oldest son's birthday right now. My kids birthdays are very special to me and I want to make them as special as I can for them too. Pictures will be posted of course, of whatever we come up with.<br />
<br />
But for anyone who may not understand why I don't make cakes anymore, I suggest just trying to make one of them for yourself. You probably will change your mind when you see everything you need to purchase even before all the work can begin. Crazy!!<br />
<br />

He says we will make the snake next year. </span><br />

It is just not something I can do right now and still be able to give my family everything they need from me. It has caused too much stress for them and as a mom, I have to put them first. Unless you have experience in cake decorating, you really cannot appreciate the amount of time this takes. And that is for anyone who makes cakes, not just me. I also never figured out how to actually make a profit from this type of work. In fact, I went backwards most of the time. So I could in no way justify continuing to make cakes even if I did enjoy the work. There are also some other projects I have begun and have now fallen in love with, and I'm wanting to be able to devote some more time to as well. I am sure there will be pictures posted sometime in the near future. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I would have liked to have ended this on a high note instead of with a major BOMB. And man was it a big one! I've actually never bombed so big on a cake in my life. I was asked to make a topsy turvy cake which I have never made before. I accepted the challenge and studied up on how to do it and really felt pretty knowledgeable about what I was attempting. And well, I will now show you the result of all my knowledge. So here it is ...<strong>the good, the bad, and the....please don't hit the floor!! </strong></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HapKPz5Z-LU/TWK9tb6HysI/AAAAAAAAJ0k/N2vfcwld678/s1600/IMG_3587d1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HapKPz5Z-LU/TWK9tb6HysI/AAAAAAAAJ0k/N2vfcwld678/s320/IMG_3587d1.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is the front of the cake and this is actually the good side. I worked sooo hard on all the little fondant details. All of the candy is made from fondant, none of it was real candy. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The left side of the top tier that the arrow is pointing to, should be up higher just like it is on the bottom tier. When I first put the cake together it all looked good. After a little while, I looked at the cake and the top tier was just about to slide right off onto the counter. So I took it apart, and added some small pieces of cake board underneath the top tier to keep it from falling. All seemed good at that point, but just wait..... </span></td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">And... here's the bad. And boy was it bad! Then I looked at the cake and one side of the bottom tier had actually caved in and was falling also causing the top tier to fall in that direction as well. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">You are looking at the side of the cake here. The sides should be even or level. The only part of the cake that should look topsy turvy should be the front and the back. </span></td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">I had to take this cake apart about 5 different times trying to do everything I could think of to solve the problem. I put many more dowels on the side that was falling, but once the bottom tier had started to cave in there was nothing I could do to get this cake level again. It was all over! Now it was time to pray, "please Lord don't let it hit the floor"! And let me tell you, I do not know if there has ever been a cake more prayed over than this one. Well, prayer works because I am happy to say, and this is the only good thing I can say about this cake, but it stayed together through the party. Praise the Lord!!! </span></td></tr>

<span style="font-size: small;">I still cannot believe I delivered a cake that looked like this. I wish I could post pictures of the beautiful decorations this little girl's mom had made for her party. It was like walking into a sweet little girly candy land,......so creative! After getting there and seeing all of that, it made me want even more to be able to give her a cake that was worthy of such a beautiful setting. They were very kind and understanding of what happened with the cake and I really appreciated it. I just hope miss Jada wasn't too disappointed! I know I am very disappointed in myself but nothing can be done about it now. So I just have to accept my failure and try and let it go.</span></td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is a very special cake because I made it for my little girl's 4th birthday. Faith watched me very closely while I worked on this one and critiqued me the entire time. Her only disappointment was that I did not add the prince to the cake. She said, "Who is going to protect her hair from getting cut off?". lol </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">I did originally plan on the prince and drew him out on paper just like I did Rapunzel. But I did this while trying to watch The Biggest Loser. I am a BIG multi-tasker but it does not always work out for me. For example, the next day, after I had baked the four, 6 inch layers of cake that were to be stacked, I realized the prince was actually taller than the entire tower of cake. OOPS!!! </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">I never found more time in my crazy schedule to sit down and try and draw him smaller. Oh well, I liked the cake better with out him. We told Faith that Daddy would protect Rapunzel and she said, "well I'll just eat her hair." And she did! The first thing she asked for when I cut the cake was Rapunzel's hair. </span><br />

I will post pics of whatever we come up with.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">My schedule with my kids just does not permit me to make cakes right now. Honestly, I do not know how people do this with children at home with them. I am homeschooling one of my kids with an almost 4 yr old at home as well, and between the 3 of them and all of their activities, we are constantly on the go. We have also only half way finished a small remodeling project we started back in early Sept. which = life out of order in the B household which = DeeDee at this point almost considered clinically insane.</span><br />

<br />
Me- "You're my favorite little girl!"<br />
Faith-"You're my favorite little Moma!"<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
Faith- "Moma when I grow up, I'm gonna make cakes and paint just like you."<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
Faith was sneezing a bunch and I told her I may have to give her something to help her stop sneezing. She says, "Jesus said I can sneeze if I want to". <br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
<u></u>We found a couple of dead bugs behind a dresser in Faith's room. I asked her who killed those bugs, she says, " uhh,...Jesus".<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
Faith- " I have hairy arms!" (Looking at her arms she says), "I had skin when I was a baby, now look at all that hairy stuff all over me."<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
After church, she is talking about a boy in her class named "stinky Michael" (a name given by Faith, not the boy's parents). She is fussing saying she doesn't want to sit by him anymore,...hmmmm.<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
And how did Jesus get in Faith's heart?... Well, according to her, she ate him when she was a baby. Uh... ok?!... we'll work on that one.<br />
<u> </u><br />
<br />
Faith- "God is great, God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. By His Hands we all our feed. Thankyou Lord for Daddy's bread. Amen"Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-19485183620383127182010-08-23T08:02:00.000-07:002010-08-23T08:02:59.075-07:00Dylan's Big Dreams Cake<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

He even thought I was not going to be able to pull it off, and I have to admit that I was thinking the same thing. This is supposed to be a Lamborghini car and a F-22 Stealth Raptor and a Lamborghini Yacht. No, they don't look like the real things, but Dylan was happy. While I was working on them, he would come by and give my work an inspection and say," yeah, you got that right and that's right but wait Mom you left off this detail." <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">This was mine and Dylan's original plan. I sketched it out better than I executed it, unfortunately. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">For the plane, I was going to stick it on a dowel and fly it in the air. Cool, huh? Yeah, well it didn't fly!...literally. The car, boat and plane are made out of rice crispy treats. The plane was ridiculously too heavy to stick on a dowel. So the plan changed to just putting all of them on the cake together. I tried putting a mound of rice crispies on the cake to prop up the plane so it was tilted with the nose in the air, but the plane decided to crack right down the middle and down both sides. <br />
<br />
The plane was the last one I made and I was very tired. You have to really press the rice crispies together hard and then they will become very solid. I am thinking I got a little lazy with it. Also my last batch of rc was too marshmellowy and they need to be more dry to make it work well. So that could have added to the problem. Or..... the plane was just too darn big and needed a support system built for it. I would love to try it again just to see what I did wrong. <br />

They were made from cream cheese pound cake with a lemon mousse filling. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpP3C3RPCI/AAAAAAAAIoY/t9R16xj3BNs/s1600/IMG_2323.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpP3C3RPCI/AAAAAAAAIoY/t9R16xj3BNs/s320/IMG_2323.jpg" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">This was my first attempt at petit fours. I have to admit, that I was a little scared and intimidated after reading many other blogs about how hard they were to make and how most of them said they would never do it again. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I did my homework and read everything I could find about petit fours and then mapped out my plan. Of course, nothing in my kitchen ever goes as smoothly as planned. For instance, I had to make 4 batches of poured fondant when I only needed 2. The first batch was a total disaster and went straight in the trash. The second was perfect but not enough, so I made another batch. The only problem was that the color of the 3rd batch did not match the second one, which had already been poured over half of the cakes. So a fourth batch was made to add to the 3rd to get the right color. Lesson learned, make ALL of the poured fondant at one time if it has coloring in it so the color will match. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">And the pouring..... oh my is it messy! And I am a messy baker to begin with. And actually pouring did not work for me. I ended up dipping the sides, then spooned some over the top. It sounds easy,...but it's not and it will still make a mess. I could not have done these with out the wonderful tutorials from <a href="http://bakerella.com/">bakerella.com</a> and <a href="http://veganyumyum.com/">veganyumyum.com</a>. Anyone who wants to give these a try should definitely read their blogs first. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpQEg1-0bI/AAAAAAAAIoo/UxUkYte7CCU/s1600/IMG_2324.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpQEg1-0bI/AAAAAAAAIoo/UxUkYte7CCU/s320/IMG_2324.jpg" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">And as messy and challenging as it was, I would do it again. I made all my notes about the problems I encountered this time so I could avoid those next time. This was a GREAT experience for me and I learned soo much!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpQK2nCuaI/AAAAAAAAIow/sQzho189n_Q/s1600/IMG_2327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TDpQK2nCuaI/AAAAAAAAIow/sQzho189n_Q/s320/IMG_2327.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I received the sweetest email saying how much everyone at the shower loved them. I can't even begin to say how good that made me feel. I already had my concerns over these petit fours. I wanted to be able to spend more time decorating, but I ended up spending most of the time just making them. I was feeling like it was not my best decorating job, so that sweet email meant the world to me. <br />

It was Gavin's 6th birthday. (Wow,... how time flies!) This was the perfect cake for Gavin because he loves candy! I've always called him my little candy man. I had 9 1/2 large bags of M&Ms poured around these two cakes. So we are stocked up on M&M's for a while. If I ever have to make this again, I have figured out a couple of different ways I could have done it that would not have required ALL of those M&M's. Of course, my usual method of learning,...I figure out what NOT to do the next time. But none of the kids complained about the M&M's, so we're good! </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

His party was just as it should have been, all about HIM enjoying his day and having a great time! God answered my prayers and blessed us with a beautiful day! It has rained all week so this truly was a blessing. After hot dogs and cake, we went swimming in the pool, so the sunshine was very much needed and we even had a cool breeze for the moms. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

She also happens to be my niece. I made a smash cake to go with it but unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of it. I don't know how I could have forgotten it. It was only 6:00 a.m when I was taking these pics and I had not been to bed yet at all. The smash cake was a one layer 6 in. round, all decorated in buttercream so she could make a Big mess. Her mom requested it be made in lighter colors than the cake, since she would be wearing it. LOL So I did light yellow and pink polka dots and a number one on it. </div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TCFbWtymgHI/AAAAAAAAIiw/0x9vIdy-0Cc/s1600/IMG_2235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" ru="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TCFbWtymgHI/AAAAAAAAIiw/0x9vIdy-0Cc/s320/IMG_2235.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">This cake was decorated to match the decor of the party. I cannot, however, take credit for the design of it. I was just a last minute fill in because the original cake decorator was unable to do it. So I tried my best to do what they had already planned. I am sure, though, it was not quite as good as what it should have been. I know there were many things I would have done differently if I had had the time. I just did the best I could do in the very short time I was given. I will say though, that this is my first and last rush order. I made that promise to my family. But I'm happy for Victory that she was able to have a cake for her 1st birthday.</div><br />

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">This cake was for two of my cousins. One just graduated from High School and the other one from LSU. They were having a big crawfish boil and pool party to celebrate with all of their family and friends. We all got a sweet surprise when my little brother, who lives in Georgia, showed up at the party. I'm going to have to come up with a name for this filling and add it to my list. It's from one of my family's favorite cakes that we love to make and it's actually the icing on that cake. I used it as a filling because it's Breanna's favorite and mine too,..well actually I think there our several of us who would call this one a favorite. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBRACJeeNkI/AAAAAAAAIho/pWo0XsOYfis/s1600/IMG_2197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qu="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBRACJeeNkI/AAAAAAAAIho/pWo0XsOYfis/s320/IMG_2197.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBQ_xbT7fbI/AAAAAAAAIhg/8EMQ5sPXfkc/s1600/IMG_2198.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qu="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBQ_xbT7fbI/AAAAAAAAIhg/8EMQ5sPXfkc/s320/IMG_2198.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the back of the cake.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBU3ufZlazI/AAAAAAAAIiA/t0DLaOckPdg/s1600/31808_1440487487939_1105615451_31290716_1996074_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" qu="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TBU3ufZlazI/AAAAAAAAIiA/t0DLaOckPdg/s320/31808_1440487487939_1105615451_31290716_1996074_n.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I love you Cory and Breanna and I'm very proud of you both!!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-82488203267776688012010-06-06T10:09:00.000-07:002010-10-03T08:23:58.764-07:00Pool Cake<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TAvJF9A_b_I/AAAAAAAAIhI/uxsGbzYoKhk/s1600/IMG_2180.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gu="true" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TAvJF9A_b_I/AAAAAAAAIhI/uxsGbzYoKhk/s400/IMG_2180.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

He said, "Moma how did you learn to be a cake artist?". I laughed, but at the same time I thought that was so sweet of him to look at it that way. He does not realize how much that meant to me and how good he made me feel. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">And Gavin would like for me to set the record straight once and for all; to a certain local lifeguard, if you happen to be reading this, Gavin CAN swim. Thank you for your concern, but it's not necessary. lol </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Gavin had such a hard time getting over this. I think he wanted me to make that girl sit down and prove to her that he could swim and that she was wrong. I could not convince him that it did not matter what she thought. We have to work on that one or life is going to be hard. If I've learned anything in life it's this,.. People think what they want to think and you are not going to convince them otherwise. Other people's opinions do not change what is true. It just broke his heart because he's worked so hard to learn to swim and he's very proud of himself. That's all we do around our house in the summer is swim. But I'm sure she was doing what she thought was best. You just can't convince Gavin of that. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-58563629969617387332010-06-04T20:29:00.000-07:002010-06-05T21:15:09.967-07:00Still Trying To Figure It All OutI've been extremely busy with cake making and decorating for a while now. That is a really good thing, but as with all new adventures, there are a lot of new challenges as well. A month ago, I was learning how to manage this with just one child at home. One child who couldn't understand why I was unable to play with her whenever she wanted me to. Now my challenge is working with 3 at home. My kids, like most, tend to get into a lot of trouble if they don't have some planned activities through out the day.<br />
I just finished a very detailed cake that I'm very excited about. I have worked all week on the details for this cake. This feels like the first time I have actually sat down and relaxed in a long while. The bad thing is that I haven't done anything with my kids and it has rained all week so they have been stuck inside = trouble.<br />
Each of them has made some disturbing comments about me making cakes this week. My 5 yr old asked if I was going to be making that cake forever. My 16 yr old wanted to know if this would be my last cake, which it's not. Then my baby summed up how they have all been feeling I think the best. I told her we could play tomorrow because I was not going to be working on a cake. She said, "yeah, cause that would make me sad and I would rip up that cake".<br />
They are the reason I started making cakes in the first place, because they loved it so much and it meant so much to them. Now they are starting to hate it because it is taking their Moma away. I have to figure out a balance. I have to figure out how to do all of this and still have happy nurtured children. Piece of cake,... right?<br />
Well, I know that tomorrow, I belong to my children. And I don't have to start another cake until next Thursday. Praise the Lord for that! The kids and I will just have to figure out how to make this work one cake at a time,.......or they will just despise cake. j/kUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-52384913485396761722010-05-30T16:15:00.000-07:002010-05-30T16:34:01.212-07:00Sports Cake<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TALx6x2g-UI/AAAAAAAAIf8/MsJAeCCkW3k/s1600/IMG_2149.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477206088952641858" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/TALx6x2g-UI/AAAAAAAAIf8/MsJAeCCkW3k/s320/IMG_2149.jpg" /></a> This is for a little boy who loves sports! I was asked to make another one for the Kindergarten Graduation Reception. I was happy to do so. My little Gavin, was graduating that night. We are very proud of our extremely smart, soon to be , 6 yr old. I cannot believe how fast time goes by.<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 167px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 242px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473763479795126386" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S_a24jWx0HI/AAAAAAAAIcY/r6F0Qh0QFTc/s320/IMG_2107.jpg" /> My very sweet and handsome little man!! He is also quite a good mathematician and a very skillful little builder. Yes, I am bragging!!<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473757235096499970" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S_axNECmtwI/AAAAAAAAIbw/FtNhJwauyJ0/s320/IMG_2096.jpg" /> This time, I decided to do the eagle a little differently. I made it completely out of buttercream icing. I wanted to put LBA in red on the cake, but only had a little bit of red coloring left, which of course, made pink icing. So we had to make do with just an eagle this time. This was one layer of chocolate chip cake.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117029252042550042.post-41624137782535281562010-05-16T14:17:00.000-07:002010-05-16T14:29:40.336-07:00Lego Cake<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S_BhX-aYrcI/AAAAAAAAIaI/8pEZQXRG_VU/s1600/IMG_2082.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471980611773705666" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S_BhX-aYrcI/AAAAAAAAIaI/8pEZQXRG_VU/s320/IMG_2082.jpg" /></a> This is for an adorable little boy who just turned 8 years old. I spent my day with my beautiful Mom and children and lots of other precious family. It's been a great day! I pray many blessings today on all Moms and on those who desire to be a Mom. Hope your day was filled with lots of smiles and laughter and dreams of the great times yet to come. (Psalm 113:9)<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dl7KYNhCI/AAAAAAAAIZI/JOp3dAs5CZ4/s1600/IMG_2047.jpg"></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlqe-XrvI/AAAAAAAAIZA/yCJluOpUGw4/s1600/IMG_2039.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469452053008330482" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlqe-XrvI/AAAAAAAAIZA/yCJluOpUGw4/s320/IMG_2039.jpg" /></a> These are our butterfly cupcakes. The butterflies are made from melted chocolate. They were yummy! The idea came from a great cupcake book I have. I love cupcakes! I think they are perfect for kids.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469457469740479282" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dqlx388zI/AAAAAAAAIZQ/9IkGlSFOxds/s320/IMG_2048.jpg" />The "sweet memory" I have about these cupcakes, is my cousin, picking up one of the containers of cupcakes and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">accidentally</span> dropping all of them on the floor. Well,...maybe that's a "not-so-sweet memory". After all that time in the kitchen making those butterflies, then sitting there seeing them broken into pieces all over the floor,.... well, you just have to laugh really. So <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">hahahahahahahahahahahaha</span>!!!!!!!<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlphdy2BI/AAAAAAAAIY4/Yvlve7v520A/s1600/IMG_2043.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469452036497135634" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlphdy2BI/AAAAAAAAIY4/Yvlve7v520A/s320/IMG_2043.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlpPJy82I/AAAAAAAAIYw/KQiJLt0I68k/s1600/IMG_2050.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469452031581418338" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-dlpPJy82I/AAAAAAAAIYw/KQiJLt0I68k/s320/IMG_2050.jpg" /></a> Wanted to make green ones too, but I ran out of steam. It was an extremely large and very heavy cake. The right half of the cake is chocolate and the left half is vanilla. The entire cake is filled with cookies and cream filling and covered with vanilla <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">buttercream</span>. The eagle and letters I made from modeling chocolate. It would have looked better if I had used fondant but I thought the kids would prefer eating the chocolate.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-BwsFR36pI/AAAAAAAAIVE/CsyfJcS_iQY/s1600/IMG_2030.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467493850261482130" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nqq24bQ09Ek/S-BwsFR36pI/AAAAAAAAIVE/CsyfJcS_iQY/s320/IMG_2030.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
